CNN sucks

Wednesday, November 14th, 2007

I’ve long thought that CNN sucked, but I also thought they were fairly honest. That credibility has dwindled even more in the light of how badly they misquoted pro wrestler John Cena. While I think pro wrestling is silly I also think CNN butchered their own story. In a nutshell CNN asked Cena if he had ever used steroids, and his immediate answer was “Absolutely not.”, but Cena then when on to talk about the general steroids issue in professional sports. As you can see in the aired clip CNN decided to leave out the “Absolutely not” and just aired Cena’s unorganized thoughts.

Here is an article from the Baltimore Sun regarding this.

If you want to be bored for 4 minutes you can watch the unedited and edited versions of the interview here.

In the grand scheme of things CNN was just trying to make their Pro Wrestling documentary more dramatic, and I don’t suppose that is so bad. The problem is that they obviously misquoted one of their interviewees in a way that they threw doubt on themselves. If CNN is willing to do this for a fluff piece what other news has been so painfully “edited”?

If you want fair coverage of anything I’m afraid you’ll have to turn to the UK and read The Economist.
